For Point Blank’s latest track breakdown, they were joined by Faustix for an exclusive peek into how he created his dance track, ‘Bailamos’.
Faustix is steadily becoming a force to be reckoned with in the dance music scenes with his ground-shaking releases on labels like Mad Decent, Monstercat, EPIC Records, Atlantic Records and more. The Danish DJ and producer, real name Morten Brangstrup Olsen, has worked with the likes of Diplo and Major Lazor and shows no signs of slowing down.
His featured track, ‘Bailamos’, bridges the gap between moombahton and psytrance by blending beefy bass lines and punchy rolling drums at a slow bpm. It’s taken from the third instalment of his ‘OMG It’s Lit’ EP series and was produced in just 4 hours. The track saw the producer break free from the shackles of his old analogue gear and presets and fire up Serum for the first time ever. If you’d like to learn more about how DAWs like Logic and Ableton work, why not check out Point Blank’s popular Intro to Music Production course which covers both. Or, if you’re looking for something more advanced they also offer Degrees, Diplomas and more.
During the tutorial, Faustix talks through his first experiences using Xfer’s Serum and how he layered his basslines then added effects to increase the grit factor. He shows how he manipulates samples using his “favourite plugin of all time“, Little Alter Boy, and blends organic sounding instruments like clarinets and accordions with electronic elements. He drops some tips on how he inspires creativity within himself by chopping and rearranging vocal samples for the track’s ‘drop’ and discusses how he blends genres to discover new and exciting territories.
