Linear B keeps up his busy 2020 with a second release on his own Rainbow Tipi label following on from March’s top two-tracker, The Boge.
Linear B has been involved in the UK techno scene for the last 15 years but is currently having something of a resurgence with a raft of interest in both his recently launched Rainbow Tipi label and his latest release. DJs including Laurent Garnier, Truncate and Mr Ties have heaped praise on his productions and this latest offering with it’s deep and hypnotic leaning is sure to be another winner.
Opener ‘Our Eva’ is a beautifully melodic and emotive track that the artist struggled to write, as it’s a tribute to his mother, who passed away only recently. Says the artist, “I wanted to sing over it or write words but I couldn’t find the voice, but I do feel this piece of music really captures the emotions I was feeling at the time”. The result is a spacious, thoughtful track with deft synths and fleeting celestial spirits that drift about over a poignant bassline.
The lush ‘Blue Angel’ includes poetry written and read by Linear B after he found a tiny, crystal blue angel had fallen off the shelf in the studio. It is a superb techno track with a busy, knotted bassline and plenty of cosmic appeal that journeys endlessly off into infinity.
Last of all is the excellent ‘San Fran Dave’, written on a problematic Rotary Prophet 08 synth which the artist has a love-hate relationship with. It makes for a deep, enthralling track with creepy vocal sounds and a carefully poised bassline that keeps you on your toes.
These are tender, touching tracks that strike a real emotional chord.
