Cologne-based project 1zimmerapartment has issued its latest release, ‘Abba & Downer/Safe & Sound,’ through the German imprint Headfire International. The two-track set is written and produced by Chris Maico Schmidt, with vocals and lyrics on ‘Safe & Sound’ by Patrizia Battistella.
In their latest musical offering, minimal club textures meet spoken-word fragments. Schmidt’s production keeps to a stripped-back framework: steady kicks, restrained percussion, and sparse spoken passages that shift between close-mic intimacy and distant atmosphere. While ‘Abba & Downer’ holds a dry, pulsing groove, ‘Safe & Sound’ widens the palette with rounder low-end and warmer synth layers. Battistella’s voice merges with each arrangement, shaping the overall space rather than leading it.
