Australian electronic producer Arky Waters has released his new EP ‘Johera’ after a successful year of singles. Available via Mammal Sounds Records, the EP features four tracks: ‘We Ain’t Like Dem,’ ‘Blessings,’ ‘Roadkilla,’ and ‘Moth’—all of which have built anticipation for this release.
The EP’s title track, ‘Johera,’ represents Waters‘ journey in music production. He reveals the creative process behind it: “Was an idea I had sitting on my drive for about a year, it wasn’t until I found the vocal sample online that really blossomed the track into what it is. I started to form the beat around the vocal and it became more of a song. I really love how the groove weaves around her vocal. Her delivery is so strong and raw. I honestly wish I knew what she was singing about but I really have no idea—I guess that’s the beauty of sampling!”
2024 has been a breakthrough year for Waters. His singles have gained significant traction on Triple J Radio and major streaming platforms’ editorial playlists. His appearance at the SXSW Sydney 2024 showcase further cements his growing influence in electronic music.
“This project will always be about having fun and experimenting—you can literally see it through the tracklist. I’m just trying different genres and making what sounds good to me. This is the way I love DJing as well, just switching genres all the time,” Waters explains. “These songs are just timestamps to my education on electronic music. I started to move towards more natural and tribal sounds—probably as a result of the fatigue of getting into the harder side of techno. My aim for the last two tracks was to make something really earthy and organic that would still work in the clubs.”
