Australian producer and DJ 1tbsp has released his latest body of work, the six-track ‘Hotel Living’ EP. The release follows a series of recent singles and arrives alongside upcoming shows across North America, the UK, and Spain.
The EP includes previously released tracks ‘Wet Peak Stars’ featuring Meth Math, ‘Rush (Missing Out On Me)’ with Cherry Chola and Purient, and ‘Isso’ featuring MC Pânico. Completing the collection are three new offerings: ‘Dolly Destructiva’, ‘It Hurts So Bad’, and ‘Rosas Y Besitos’, with guest appearances from Cherry Chola and DJ ADHD.
Described by 1tbsp as an evolution of his earlier work, the EP blends club energy with Latin-American influences, filtering underground elements through a pop-leaning lens. “Hotel Living feels like a zeroed in extension to my previous release ‘Megacity1000,’” he said. “I wanted to find a concept that still had the busy-ness and variety of a city but could exist within a room, and hotel living came to mind. Unexpectedly, all the songs are very upbeat and to me feel like this mix between sensitivity and rushing.”
On the production process, he added: “I make hundreds of sketches, usually a few a day, until some start to stand out. Also in DJing, I like to explore sounds that might influence my production, and I started to incorporate some old French house music that I listened to as a teenager. I think that really came through in the EP. I worked with Cherry Chola on three of the six songs, she’s become one of my favourite people to make songs with.”
1tbsp is also currently touring in support of the release, with dates scheduled across Salt Lake City, Brooklyn, Washington, Madrid, London, Portland, British Columbia, and San Francisco. The run includes tonight’s performance at Ogden Amphitheatre supporting Disclosure, and tomorrow’s debut of SumoclicNights at 99 Scott in Brooklyn. Grab your tickets here.
