Louis Bekk on spontaneity, community, and breaking genre lines

Renowned for his genre-defying sets and unorthodox approach to performance, French artist Louis Bekk has quickly established himself as a force within the electronic scene.

Blending classical roots with modern influences across house and UKG, his trajectory has been marked by viral pop-up shows in unlikely spaces — from rooftops and barbershops to double-decker buses — all while nurturing a strong, loyal fanbase through a spirit of accessibility and cultural intent.

Now, with the release of his new single ‘All I Need’ via [PIAS] Électronique, Louis brings that vision into the studio. Crafted between his home base in France and a session with Tom Stafford in London, the track highlights Bekk’s refusal to be boxed in, offering a glimpse of what’s to come as he gears up for more music, bigger shows, and new collaborations.

In this conversation, Louis opens up about the philosophy behind his community-driven performances, working with Kaycyy, and why he believes authenticity is more important than ever in 2025.

EG: Hi, Louis! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?

Louis Bekk: Hey! Thank you for the opportunity, it really means a lot to me! To be honest the last months has been pretty intense but it’s a good sign. I actually just got back from Turkey where I played a show!

EG: First of all, congratulations on the release of ‘All I Need’, your debut on [PIAS] Électronique! You must be happy to have this one out. What has the initial reception been like so far?

Louis Bekk: Thank you!! Feels so good to start sharing music with everyone! It’s interesting to bring something new to my fanbase and I’m really humbled by the support I’ve received!

EG: So, what can your fans expect to find on ‘All I Need’? How did it come about?

Louis Bekk: I think that the main idea was to showcase as much my different influences of house, UKG or classical music, than my wish to not be affiliated to any genres or global trends. The main idea was recording in my studio in France but all the analogic instruments got re-recorded in London with my friend Tom Stafford.

EG: Now, ‘All I Need’ comes off the back of a series of viral moments that have seen you play everywhere, from rooftops and double-decker buses to barbershops. How did that idea come about? When did you realize there was “something” there? Were you expecting it to blow up like it has?

Louis Bekk: The idea of playing in unconventional venues originally came from a desire to offer fans a new kind of spontaneous experience—but more importantly, to put music back at the center of everything. With nightlife becoming increasingly exclusive and concert tickets often expensive, music is starting to reflect social divisions. What I really wanted was to create something different: a genuine community – something cultural. I didn’t expect it blow up but I was deep down convinced that my positioning would resonate with some people and I’m really glad it did!!

EG: And how do you foster that sense of “community” that has been a key factor in this stage of your career?

Louis Bekk: From the beginning, the intention behind all of my shows has genuinely been to bring people together and have fun. I try to stay as authentic and accessible as possible, because we all see it as one big family. They’ve supported my vision to build this project in a different way since day one, and that connection means everything.

EG: By the way, speaking about releases…we know you have something in the pipeline with Kaycyy. Is there anything you can anticipate on that front?

Louis Bekk: Absolutely! I’ve recently been extremelly lucky to finish some tunes with incredible singers and rappers such as Kaycyy and I couldn’t be more excited to share them with everyone. I can’t really tell what style those songs lean on, but it sounds different and emotional which is very important for me.

EG: What sort of things inspire you these days? Where do you go to for inspiration?

Louis Bekk: Coming from a classical background, I still find most of my melodies at the piano. But recently, I’ve been writing a lot more songs based on personal experiences. For a long time, I thought that kind of songwriting was reserved for people who had gone through deep suffering—but I’ve come to realize that as long as it’s authentic, people will connect with it!

EG: Discussing a broader picture…what do you see as the biggest challenge for artists in the near future?

Louis Bekk: I think one of the biggest challenges in 2025 is distinguishing between followers and true fans. Gen Z is craving love and attention, which often leads to chasing trends and mass followings rather than focusing on building a solid, engaged fanbase. The difference really shows when it comes to numbers—because at the end of the day, the music industry is still a business. You now see artists with huge streaming numbers or follower counts who still struggle to sell tickets or merch.

EG: Looking forward, what can we expect from Louis Bekk? Where can your fans catch you next? What are your next scheduled shows? Is there a “perfect” location in your crosshairs?

Louis Bekk: Surprisingly, I want to gradually shift from pop-ups to full live sets with larger capacities. I’m working on a lot of new music, and since we’ve been lucky enough to sell out venues like KOKO pretty rapidly in the past, I want to double down on that path and strengthen the project’s credibility within the music industry—while continuing to build my community. One thing’s for sure: I’ll keep surprising people just as much with the influences in my upcoming music as with my shows!

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Louis! We wish you all the best in the future. Take care!

Louis Bekk: Thank you very much for having me! I hope I’ll see you at the next show.
