Amsterdam-based duo Makèz return with their second full-length album, ‘Arriving Home Elsewhere’, now available via ANOTR’s No Art label.
Spanning 14 tracks, the LP offers a multi-textured journey that connects deep house, cosmic jazz, R&B, and broken beat, forming a fluid intersection between club energy and headphone intimacy. At its core, ‘Arriving Home Elsewhere’ explores identity through collaboration and genre fusion, shaping an ecosystem rather than a singular sound.
Focus track ‘BE REAL’ showcases the duo’s club-oriented sensibility, while other highlights like ‘REARRANGE YOURSELF’ and ‘LOOKS LIKE IT (SPACE TALK)’ strip things back to house’s raw pulse. In contrast, tracks like ‘Dreams’, ‘Fruits of the Universe’ (featuring douniah), and ‘Without The Sun’ (with Oliver Night) emphasize live instrumentation and improvisation, offering lush arrangements with room to breathe.
“‘Arriving Home Elsewhere’ moves between the energy of house and the freedom of jazz. Sometimes this blends seamlessly, while sometimes this stands boldly apart. We asked ourselves, “Could these worlds live together on one record?’”We chose to trust our instinct and work without compromise. Wanting to unite musical scenes, sounds, and friends. By collaborating with artists with different styles and stories, the album becomes a meeting point of voices where ‘home’ is something created together, constantly redefining. It may sound familiar, yet unexplored,” said Makèz.
The album features collaborations with Ben Westbeech, Liv East, SANITY, 30/70, dreamcastmoe, Cor.Ece, Oliver Night, Goya Gumbani, and Javonntte. Life on Planets appears on ‘BE REAL’, ‘ILLUSIONS’ (with AVA LAVÁ), and ‘DOWNSTREAM’.
