Brighton-based producer Mark Churcher introduces his new moniker, Funkin’ell, with a self-titled LP available now on Emote Records in vinyl and digital formats.
With over 30 years of experience across projects like Chicago Bee and A-Acid-Eno, Churcher’s latest outing continues his deep-rooted love for vintage electronics. On ‘Funkin’ell’, he delivers a set of moody, filmic instrumentals that channel the haunting energy of late ‘70s and early ‘80s synth music.
The album follows 2021’s ‘A Nice Random Meet’, expanding on its atmospheric palette while embracing Churcher’s more playful, crate-digging sensibility. Much of the record is inspired by Brighton’s Kemptown district—its vintage shops, flea markets, and local haunts like The Hand in Hand, where Churcher has hosted monthly all-vinyl Funkin’ell parties since 2022.
‘Funkin’ell’ captures both nostalgia and experimentation, reflecting an artist who remains grounded in DIY values while constantly evolving his sound.
