Massive Attack has said its touring party was detained and questioned by police in Singapore after members of the group displayed a Palestinian flag during their July 29th, 2026, performance at the Star Theatre.
In a statement shared on August 2nd, 2026, the Bristol outfit said band members were isolated and questioned after the show, with some subjected to hotel room searches and having their passports temporarily confiscated. According to the group, audience members began chanting “Free Palestine” during the concert before the band joined in and displayed the flag onstage.
Singaporean authorities later issued stern warnings to two unnamed band members, barred them from re-entering the country, and said future applications for Massive Attack to perform in Singapore would not be approved.
“We were surprised and disappointed that our entire band was detained,” the group wrote, adding that they did not believe displaying the flag violated any law. The statement also thanked fans in Singapore and called on the country’s government to protect freedom of expression.
