London-based DJ and producer Massuma returns with ‘Mermaid’, out now via Pete Tong’s Places and Spaces. Featuring vocals from Morgan Munroe, the single marks the official release of a long-circulating fan ID.
The track follows ‘Sikasso’ on MoBlack Records and builds on Massuma’s recent rise within Afro house. Since shifting from hip hop in 2024, he has gained international support. His breakout ‘Contesto’ on VOD has surpassed 6 million streams and earned backing from Keinemusik, Carlita, Amémé, and Shimza.
Originally started nearly a decade ago after a Myspace exchange, ‘Mermaid’ was revisited and reworked with updated vocals and refined production. The result reflects Massuma’s current direction while preserving the core melodic idea that first drew attention.
“‘Mermaid’ is one of those ideas that crept up in the back of my mind almost like an itch I needed to scratch,” Massuma explains. “What started as that little ‘sweep’ you hear in the melody then evolved into this full idea over the course of an afternoon in the studio… all of a sudden I was sitting on this ID people were asking me about. It’s even been leaked two or three times now.”
Formerly known as Sam Savage, Massuma previously performed alongside A$AP Rocky, Future, and Travis Scott before relaunching with a focus on Afro house. With more releases and international touring planned for 2026, ‘Mermaid’ signals the next step in his evolving catalogue.
