Monsieur Mellow, the solo project of Australian producer Callum MacDonald, has released his latest single, ‘Roll River, Roll.’ The track features Brisbane singer-songwriter Jackson James Smith and arrives as a precursor to MacDonald’s debut solo EP, scheduled for later this year.

The collaboration focuses on a slow-burn rhythm, integrating soulful vocal samples sourced from the London-based collective Soothsayers. The production is characterized by prominent brass arrangements and steady percussion, aiming for a sound that balances vintage soul influences with contemporary electronic production.

The track follows previous 2026 releases ‘Paris Strut’ and ‘Slow Down,’ the latter of which featured Sydney artist Taj Ralph. This series of singles establishes the project’s direction, which favors warm textures and groove-oriented arrangements over high-tempo club structures.

Callum MacDonald is widely recognized as a member of the Brisbane R&B and soul outfit daste. With Monsieur Mellow, he shifts toward a solo identity rooted in nostalgia and classic songwriting techniques.

‘Roll River, Roll’ is available now. Stream and download here.
