Moog, the well-known synthesizer manufacturer, has announced that it will be selling its business to InMusic. The announcement, made on June 22, 2023, marks the end of an era for Moog, which has been a major player in the music industry for decades.
According to the official statement, Moog decided to sell to InMusic to focus on its core business of creating innovative products for musicians. InMusic, a company that specializes in music hardware and software, is expected to continue the Moog legacy while expanding its reach into new markets.
“Nothing is changing,” said Logan Kelly, Moog’s brand director, speaking to Resident Advisor. “We’ll still build everything here in Asheville, North Carolina, to the same standards. For all of us working here, this change just helps to safeguard the future of what we do. The past few years have been challenging with parts shortages and supply chain issues. Something had to change, but this is ultimately a great thing for us.”
The news has been met with mixed reactions from the music community, with some expressing concern about the future of Moog products under InMusic’s ownership. However, many are optimistic that the deal will lead to new and exciting developments in the world of synthesis and electronic music.
