Moontalk: “The main challenge has been trusting ourselves creatively”

Moontalk, the Swedish duo of Edwin Lindberg and Lukas Hällgren, has quickly emerged from the underground to become a rising force in the global electronic music scene. With deep production experience and hundreds of millions of streams between them, the pair blends hypnotic grooves, nostalgic textures, and melodic hooks into a signature indie dance sound.

Following the breakout success of their track ‘Money’, which hit #1 on the Beatport Indie Dance Chart, Moontalk has continued to build momentum through standout singles like ‘Slamminn’ and ‘Melody (For Space Lovers)’, and with ‘Lovergirl’, released August 14 via MDLBEAST Records, the duo takes yet another confident step. A reimagining of Teena Marie’s 1984 classic, the track blends hedonistic energy with an empowering message and has already become a peak-time favorite.

Now signed to Analog Agency and fresh from a milestone performance at Jamie Jones’ Paradise party during UNVRS in Ibiza, the duo has its sights set on an ambitious year ahead—including a world tour, a new single on Planet X, and work on their debut album.

In this conversation, Moontalk opens up about their origin story, creative evolution, and the power of trusting your instincts.

EG: Hi Edwin and Lukas, thank you so much for having us for the first time and celebrating with you the release of ‘Lovergirl’. Summer is about to end, what would you say were the highlights of it?

Moontalk: Thanks for having us! Well, we kind of refuse to admit that summer is ending—living in Sweden, you try to stretch it as far as possible. But it’s been an amazing one. One of the absolute highlights was definitely playing Paradise by Jamie Jones at UNVRS in Ibiza. The energy was unforgettable, and sharing that stage really felt like a milestone for us.

EG: To start with, we’d love to get to know more about your story. Who are you, and how did you meet?

Moontalk: We’re Moontalk, two Swedish guys with a love for electronic music, a cold beer, and a good time, to put it simply. Before our project, we both had separate careers in music, writing and producing across different genres for other artists. We ended up in the same studio complex, literally side by side, but it took us a couple of years to discover how much we shared the same taste in music and the same vision. For years there was just a wall between us—then suddenly there was Moontalk.

EG: How was getting into the dance music scene? What are some of the challenges you never expected to overcome?

Moontalk: Moontalk is still quite fresh, so we’re very grateful for the recognition we’ve already received. The main challenge has been trusting ourselves creatively. Finishing a track and actually feeling 100% satisfied—that used to feel impossible. But with Moontalk, we’ve found a flow where we can step back and genuinely say, “Yes, this is it.” That’s a huge win for us.

EG: Sweden has exported incredible talent, such as Kleerup, Lykke Li, and Robyn. Who in electronic music has influenced your sound the most?

Moontalk: Sweden is full of amazing artists. Naturally, names like Avicii, Eric Prydz, and Swedish House Mafia have been major inspirations in dance music. But beyond Sweden, our biggest influences have to be the French legends—Daft Punk, Justice, and that whole wave of French touch. We love drawing from different genres though, and our goal has always been to weave those influences into something uniquely Moontalk.

“Sweden is best experienced through music, friends, and a little chaos in between”

EG: Your new release, ‘Lovergirl’, has a fantastic groove, and the video is so hedonistic. What message did you want to convey, and how has the response been?

Moontalk: ‘Lovergirl’ is pure dancefloor energy. For the vocals, we reimagined the outro of Teena Marie’s original from 1984—it’s a song about desire and attraction. The video mirrors that but also carries a message of female confidence and empowerment. The response has been incredible. We’ve had people tell us it’s become their go-to track for late nights and peak moments, which is exactly what we hoped for. It’s a love letter to the dancefloor—and to all the ladies out there.

EG: How did you end up signing with MDLBEAST Records?

Moontalk: Our manager also works as a talent buyer for MDLBEAST shows and festivals. When they launched the label, they were searching for artists who could bring something fresh. Our music landed on their desks, and they instantly connected with it. Since then, it’s been an amazing partnership—we love being part of their journey as much as they’ve become part of ours.

EG: We feel that electronic music awareness is often overshadowed by more mainstream Dutch, German, Spanish, and English DJs. How is Sweden in that regard?

Moontalk: Sweden has always punched above its weight musically, and electronic music is no exception. There’s a thriving underground here alongside the global stars, and new talent is constantly bubbling up. It’s a small country, but the creative output is massive—we’re proud to be part of that tradition.

EG: If we visited you in Sweden, where would you take us?

Moontalk: We’d start with a beer at our local pub, then head over to our studio so you could see where the magic happens. After that, we’d probably take you to a Vivrant show to dance with our friend Jeremy Olander. Sweden is best experienced through music, friends, and a little chaos in between.

EG: To wrap up, what milestones are you looking forward to now? Where can your audience catch you next?

Moontalk: We’re really excited about our release with Planet X, ‘Hotline 84’, which feels like the start of a new chapter for us. Looking ahead, we’re working toward our first album—something that will really showcase the full spectrum of Moontalk. Gig-wise, we’ll be playing shows in Stockholm next, and then heading all the way to South Africa at the start of 2026. Big things are on the horizon, and we can’t wait to share them with everyone.
