Mr. G has released ‘OG Retrospective’, a remastered compilation marking 25 years of recorded work from the UK producer, now available via his Phoenix G imprint.
The 23-track collection brings together key material from across Colin McBean’s career and includes three previously unreleased cuts. The project began after he recovered his original studio masters and regained full rights to his catalogue, opening the door to a long-overdue reassessment of his earlier work.
Reflecting on the process, McBean explains: “The day I found my original studio masters and got my rights back was the starting point, and then I realised it’s 25 years on and it’s time to recode, remaster and reevaluate because I’ve never looked back properly.”
New masters were completed at The Exchange London, creating a direct connection to the original mastering work carried out by the late Nilesh Patel. Revisiting the material also brought a personal reckoning with the period in which the tracks were made, balancing difficult memories with a sense of perspective and continuity.
