In an ever-changing industry, it’s hard to stay relevant. Karl Tabone aka Husko has been in the scene for a little over 5 years now but only recently has he decided to push his own boundaries and pursue his passion for music professionally. With releases spanning across labels such as Toolroom Records, Glasgow Underground, &Friends, Pomme Fritte, and more, Husko has managed to attract attention internationally gaining frequent support from A-list radio stations and DJs. His tracks have been played on the radio by the likes of Danny Howard, Annie Mac, Jaguar, and Jax Jones, and have received club support from industry heavy weights such as Denis Sulta, Mark Knight, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Monki, David Guetta, LP Giobbi, Benny Benassi and more.
Now, Husko is behind the drop of ‘First Love’ on Maltese imprint District Records. EG caught up with Karl to celebrate the milestone and learn more about the sound of Husko.
EG: Hi Husko, what’s your real name, and where were you born?
Husko: My name is Karl and I’m from sunny Malta!
EG: Describe your music in 3 words?
Husko: Playful, energetic, and groovy
EG: Where are you based?
Husko: Malta
EG: What labels have you released on during your career?
Husko: I’ve released on loads of labels over the past few years but some of my recent releases have landed on Toolroom, &friends, Another Rhythm, and Glasgow Underground.
EG: Can you tell us 3 artists you aspire to / have influenced you?
Husko: Currently, I’m super inspired by organic and real music. I’m a big fan of what The Shapeshifters is putting out as he has stuck to his roots. Adelphi Music Factory are also putting out some great house music and have such a sick style! Finally, I’d have to say Mark Knight as he brought my love for house music back a few years ago.
EG: How long have you been producing music? What was your first signed release?
Husko: It’s been around 10 years now I would say but only recently have I started to take it seriously, I did the first few years just messing around in a couple of genres. My first proper release was ‘One Night Stand’ with my good friend AP.
EG: Three things you can’t live without on the road when touring?
Husko: My phone, a good pair of headphones, and most importantly, good food!
EG: Can you tell us about your next release?
Husko: ‘First Love’ is something special to me. Firstly, it is released on the local label District Records, which is something I am so happy to see here in Malta. Secondly, I feel that it is a follow-up to my biggest track of last year, ‘Goodnight’, and really solidifies the whole Husko sound that I am going for! Lastly, it’s a bit more emotional than my other music, which is a side not many people have experienced, but I feel that people will still vibe with it in a club!
EG: One piece of advice you can give to other aspiring producers?
Husko: Don’t follow trends, do what you love, don’t compare yourself, and put in the work.
