New York will allow ‘safe re-opening’ of large venues

The statewide option will run from February 23rd.

According to a report by NBC, New York’s governor Andrew Cuomo will allow large venues with certain COVID-19 security measures to reopen as of February 23rd. Attendees will need to have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the event in order to enter.

The government’s plan is to extend this reopening statewide, allowing a 10% capacity limit for venues with over 10,000 capacity, and seating will be mandatory and socially distanced. Attendees will also have to wear masks during the event and have a temperature check on arrival.

‘The truth is, we cannot stay closed until everyone is vaccinated. The economic, psychological, emotional cost would be incredible’, said governor Cuomo about the situation. ‘The success of this, and similar events in approved venues over the coming weeks will help inform the re-opening process for smaller venues in the future’, he continued.

His statements come after the pilot done by the American football team the Buffalo Bills, which allowed 6,700 fans into the stadium back in January to ‘unparalleled success’.
