In this conversation, she reflects on her latest work, her creative process, and how artists can sustain themselves in an increasingly demanding landscape.
EG: Hi, Niki! Welcome back to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?
Niki Sadeki: Thanks for having me! I’m at my studio right now, out in the suburbs of New York. These days I split my time between the busy streets of Brooklyn and the peaceful quiet of the “burb”.
EG: First of all, thank you for your contribution to our EG Podcast Series! We really enjoyed this one. Can you tell fans of the series what to expect? Is there a concept driving this mix? How do you usually go about recording this kind of set?
Niki Sadeki: Thank you so much for having me. It’s always a pleasure to contribute to EG. This mix takes the listener on an emotional and sonic journey. I wanted it to feel both intimate and powerful, featuring moments that invite you in alongside others that shake you up. I contemplated contrasts such as light and shadow, softness and tension, and how they coexist in music and in life. While there wasn’t a strict concept guiding the mix, I approached it as a form of storytelling.
My goal is for listeners to feel something real, even if they can’t quite identify what it is. That emotional ambiguity resonates with me. When I record these types of sets, I usually do so in one take, either at home or in my studio, after I’ve spent some time living with the track selection. It’s important for me to be in the right headspace. The focus is less on perfection and more on capturing a moment that feels honest. I also like to leave room for spontaneity, so the mix feels vibrant and alive rather than overly polished.
EG: By the way, congratulations on the drop of your new single, ‘Refract Glow’! You must be excited to have this one out. What has the initial reception been like so far? What does this particular track mean to you?
Niki Sadeki: Thank you! The feedback we’ve received so far has been lovely; many people have reached out, saying the track has struck an emotional chord with them. This means a lot to me. There’s a sense of warmth and vulnerability in the music, but there’s also movement and depth. To me, it’s about those in-between states we experience: uncertainty, longing, and a sense of becoming.
EG: ‘Refract Glow’ finds you collaborating with Mila Stern. What was that process like? Did you guys have a clear horizon in mind?
Niki Sadeki: We always wanted to work with each other, it was a matter of time. With the launch of their label, it brought the perfect opportunity for us to give it a go. And the process was so smooth, given that Mila Stern is in Berlin and I’m here in the States. We came up with the hook real fast and everything really came together beautifully.

EG: The single is a part of MiZi MuZiK’s ‘MiZi TaPeS 001’, which is actually the label’s first release. What was it that drew you into being a part of this maiden voyage?
Niki Sadeki: I was invited to work on this first release, and it was such an honor to be among such boss ladies: Mira, Britta Arnold, Mila Stern and MANTi.
EG: On a different note, you’re set to be a part of Balance’s massive Croatia takeover! Congrats. How do you feel about being part of such a massive landmark event?
Niki Sadeki: Balance has built such a strong and respected community over the years, so to be included in something of this scale feels really special. The lineup is incredible, and the location is obviously stunning, but what excites me most is the energy that comes from so many artists and music lovers coming together in one place.
EG: And what can festivalgoers expect from that particular performance?
Niki Sadeki: They can expect a set that’s dynamic, emotional, and hopefully a little unexpected. I always like to read the energy of the crowd and the space, but my intention is to create something that feels immersive and connected from start to finish. There will be deep grooves, a few twists, and that balance between tension and release that I love playing with.
EG: Now, what do you see as the biggest challenge for the music industry in the next few years, and how do you think artists can adapt?
Niki Sadeki: One of the biggest challenges I see is finding sustainability, both financially and emotionally. With the constant demand for content and visibility, it can feel like artists are expected to be everywhere at once while still staying inspired and creative. The pace can be overwhelming, and it’s easy to lose touch with the reasons we started making music in the first place. I think artists can adapt by being more intentional about how they engage with their work and their audiences. That might mean setting boundaries, focusing on quality over quantity, or finding new ways to connect that feel more genuine. Building a supportive community around you, both online and in real life, can also make a big difference. It’s about finding balance and staying true to your own rhythm, even when the industry pushes for something else.

EG: Looking forward, what can we expect from Niki Sadeki in the coming months? Where can your fans catch you next?
Niki Sadeki: There’s a lot on the horizon, and I’m really excited about what’s coming. I have a steady stream of music set to drop over the next while, starting with an EP on Natura Viva that’s landing in about a month. It’s a project I’ve put a lot of heart into, and I can’t wait for it to be out in the world. Beyond that, there are a handful of remixes in the pipeline, with a few more originals on the way. Each one taps into a different side of my sound, so it’s been fun exploring those contrasts. As for shows, I’ll be playing in Houston, New York and Mexico City this month, and will be back in Toronto after a long time.
EG: Thank you so much for your time, Niki! We wish you all the best for the future. Take care!
Niki Sadeki: Thanks for your continuous support.
