Both groups signed on to the IMPALA campaign.
The Beggars Group, the parent company for labels such as XL Recordings, Rough Trade, 4AD, and Young, has announced its goal to be carbon negative in both the US and UK by the end of 2024 and 2021 respectively, with an aim to achieve a 46% reduction by 2030. The company reports that during 2020 they already ‘halved the carbon intensity of shipments with our largest logistics provider by increasing our use of sea freight.’
Meanwhile, Ninja Tune is working towards becoming carbon neutral before 2022, with a view to achieving a negative status.
Both companies have signed the IMPALA campaign, which seeks to move the European indie record industry into sustainability through a set of 15 commitments that include reducing the carbon footprint of digital music services, manufacturing supply chains, self-reporting of emissions, and guidance for other labels.
