French DJ Michael Canitrot performed an audiovisual show for Notre Dame Cathedral’s reopening on December 8th, 2024, transforming the historic building with a light and sound display that blended tradition with electronic music.
Broadcast worldwide via French TV channel Mondovision, the event showcased the cathedral’s restored architecture through a blend of music, digital mapping, and lighting effects, offering a modern perspective while honoring its cultural heritage.
“I drew inspiration, both musically and visually, from elements unique to the cathedral: the sound of the bells, the artworks inside, the voices of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame choir, and the classical style,” he explains. “I want to convey a universal message, so that everyone can connect with my music and feel inspired to say, “I want to come back and visit Notre Dame.“”
This performance joins Canitrot’s Monumental Tour project, which blends electronic music with historic venues. Previous shows include the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel and the Eiffel Tower, with his recent Basilica del Pilar performance drawing 45,000 attendees and reaching millions online.
