NYC law to prevent overdoses in nightclubs

‘Intro 56’ comes into effect on January 11th, 2023.

The city of New York has just passed a new bill with the aim to to curb overdoses in nightclubs and venues. Known as ‘Intro 56’, the new law will come into effect on January 11th as nightlife venues across the city are due to install overdose-preventing measures.

“The overdose crisis has been inflicting pain and heartache on our city for too long, so now it is time to take action,” said Mayor Eric Adams in a press statement. ”One of our city’s residents loses their life to an overdose every three hours,” he added. “So it is essential we use every tool in our arsenal to tackle this crisis.”

‘Intro 56’ will introduce Narcan kits and see staff offered training sessions to administer the treatment. These kits are more commonly used to prevent opioid overdoses.

“By providing Narcan kits to New York City nightlife establishments and educating staff on how to use it in the event of an overdose, we will save lives, and build a healthier, safer city for all,” insists Mayor Adams.
