The council has officially approved the plans.
Iconic London venue Printworks is set to become a block of office spaces after the Southwark Council approved plans for its renovation. The news comes despite a 10,000-signature petition calling for the venue to be saved.
The first news regarding the potential renovation started circulating when property developer British Land submitted a proposal to Southwark Council in the month of October, last year. From that moment, fans of the venue rallied for its rescue, gathering over 10,000 signatures via change.org.
Broadwick Live, the events management company that operates the venue as Printworks, already knew of these plans and has been working in collaboration with British Land since the club first opened its doors.
This Monday, July 11th, the Southwark Council officially approved plans for the venue’s transformation, under the name ‘Canada Water Masterplan’, which is also set to include a number of other redevelopments in the surrounding area. “The proposed design draws on extensive research into repurposing industrial buildings to create an innovative, one-of-a-kind place,” said developer Hawkins/Brown associate Andrew Tindale.
It is unknown as of yet when will Printworks cease operations.
