Erica Synths and Richie Hawtin have come together to create a new semi-modular synthesizer called the Bullfrog. The instrument was created to engage and motivate both young learners and professionals alike. It blends the excitement of electronic music creation with an all-encompassing educational experience.

This compact synthesizer features an analog oscillator capable of blending a sine wave, pulse wave, and noise, as well as two loopable attack-release envelopes and a built-in delay effect. A sample-and-hold circuit, shape control, FM rate, and built-in speaker are also included. Swappable voice cards will be available, which can either create internal patches or provide new sounds and features such as a five-step sequencer, high-pass filter, short sampler, or acid bassline generator.

Whether someone’s experience with Bullfrog points them down a career in electronic music or not, our goal is to both nurture a passion for electronically produced sounds and promote a fun, easy learning path into basic sound synthesis,” says Richie.

The new synth was showcased at the Sónar festival in Barcelona and is set to be released in August via ericasynths.lv.
