Rick Wade debuts on Artistheplace Recordings, a new label from Berlin’s Art is the Place collective. The veteran producer’s ‘Deep Incantations Trilogy Vol. 1’ EP showcases his signature emotionally-charged approach to house music.
‘Deep Incantations Trilogy Vol. 1’ opens with ‘Groove Tool,’ a sophisticated composition where ethereal synthesizer pads float above a solid rhythmic foundation, complemented by delicate piano work and brass arrangements. The following track, ‘Pimp Prophecy,’ elevates the energy while maintaining the release’s dreamlike atmosphere through its use of chord progressions and atmospheric textures.
The EP continues with ‘Jazzy Tears,’ creating an emotional journey through carefully crafted melodic elements. The collection concludes with ‘Ooo Ahh,’ a playful yet sophisticated piece that weaves together vocal samples, jubilant horns, and intricate piano passages.
A pioneer of Detroit house music, Wade has shaped the genre through releases like ‘Late Night Basix’ and ‘Detroit Noir’ on his Harmonie Park label. His collaboration with Art is the Place, stemming from Tresor’s ‘From Detroit nach Berlin’ exhibition, celebrates the Detroit-Berlin connection and African American influence on techno.
