Bassically return with their first bonafide OG material since dropping their deeply personal and spectrum spanning ‘Audio Diaries’ LP.
The title track of the ‘Honey Trap’ EP is a wonderfully ponderous slice of Deep House that’s full of textural goodness;
from which ‘Baby Steps’ gleans the same wistful air, but instead chooses to take the form of a mesmeric, rock-steady chugger.
‘Jaguar Paw’ then takes us deep underground to a sweaty, strobe-lit basement floor… before pitching things right down and side-swiping us with a gnarled Swamp Techno workout, that wouldn’t sound out of place during one of Weatherall and Pearson’s legendary B2B marathons…
And topping off this fine four tracker is the swing-loaded and stab-driven groove of ‘Catchweight’… it’s wraithlike vocal whispers combining with tempered guitar and an evolving, quaking synth lead – to great effect.
