Applique Music presents ‘Smile Abit’ from Manchester producer, Chris Whittaker – A rising pioneer of the underground music scene, Chris has established himself with unrivaled tenacity and passion both in the studio and behind the decks. ‘Smile Abit’ is Chris’ third outing on the Mancunian imprint, with previous releases ‘Feel Good’ and ‘Cheeching’ seeing support from BBC Radio DJ’s Jaguar and Roesh, along with a Beatport top 20 chart placement.
Applique Music is hit a sweet spot in recent months with a string of successful releases seeing Beatport chart success and BBC Radio plays, including Funky House No.1: ‘Unicorn Runway’ by Lempo and Rosemary Quaye, Jackin House No.2: ‘Man With A Falcon’ by The Incredible Melting Man, and ‘If You Want It’ by Lempo and Robert Owens which peaked at No.14 in Tech House.
The ‘Smile Abit’ original mix is a dusty basement groover, full of jackin’ percussion, rolling bass, rich keys, and a soulful vocal sample – oozing with the class we’ve come to expect from a Chris Whittaker production. Applique label boss, Lempo, has provided the remix package with a well-crafted funky rework, staying true to the original, Lempo’s remix has brighter harmonics, and some cheeky rewind transitions which we are happy to Premiere on Electronic Groove.
‘Smile Abit’ is available exclusively on Beatport from Friday, February 3rd with a general release on February 17th.
