German artists Christian Löffler and Fejká have a lot in common. Not only do they both put out electronic music that’s imbued with emotion, weaving a sense of longing and nostalgia into otherwise hard electronica, but they’re also greatly inspired in their productions by the abundant nature of their surroundings on the Baltic sea coast and the Black Forest respectively. Their shared sensibility in music has made their paths cross and Christian Löffler invited Fejká to join the Ki Records family. Since then they have shared the stage on numerous occasions, playing tours and headlining festivals. Their collaboration on the track Fjäll is the latest confirmation of their kinship and the complementarity of their soundworlds.

Fjäll was born from the producers’ constant dialogue and longtime habit of giving feedback on each other’s work. Upon receiving an initial demo of the track from Löffler, Fejká playfully took to his synths adding subtle build-ups and drops to the producer’s atmospheric textures. “I had the feeling that the new tracks I added gave the song something rhythmic and hypnotic and that our two palettes flowed perfectly together,” says Fejká, “When I sent Christian my changed version without any expectations, he immediately wrote back to me that he was celebrating the new part and thus an unplanned collaboration was born”. Fjäll is the Old Norse word for a fell, a high and barren landscape feature typically found in Scandinavia and Northern Europe countries such as Iceland and Scotland. Like the landscape itself, the track evokes openness and spaciousness with atmospheric field recordings and beats that roll out endlessly. Synth washes and soft vocals brush softly as the wind blows on grass, and listeners are immediately taken to a place of comfortable solitude. Fejká and Löffler’s synergy on Fjäll is such that it’s impossible to distinguish where one’s contribution ends and the other begins, creating a wholly organic, and highly emotive journey.
