Damian Lazarus unveils ‘Magickal Remixed’ with first instalment featuring Harry Romero, Jonathan Kaspar, and Méstiza

Following the surprise release of his fifth studio album ‘Magickal’ at the start of the year, Damian Lazarus now opens a new chapter in the project’s evolution with ‘Magickal Remixed (Part I)’. Landing on 5th September 2025 via Crosstown Rebels, this first instalment of the two-part series features bold reimaginings from Harry Romero, Jonathan Kaspar, and Mëstiza, offering three fresh takes on standout cuts from the acclaimed long-player.

Set across digital and vinyl formats, the EP arrives hot on the heels of THEMBA’s powerful remix of lead single ‘Searchin’ featuring Jem Cooke—a landmark moment that also marked the Afro-house star’s debut on the label. Now, the series continues in full force as Lazarus invites a selection of his most respected peers and collaborators to delve deeper into the album’s rich sonic world.

The package opens with Harry Romero’s ‘Raw Dog’ remix of ‘R U Dreaming?’, originally a deeply introspective cut featuring Canadian maestro Mathew Jonson. Here, the New York favorite dials up the low-end pressure and rhythmic weight, bringing raw tribal energy and heavyweight swing to the original’s dreamlike tones.

Next comes Jonathan Kaspar’s ‘Sunrise Remix’ of ‘Falling Down’, Lazarus’ collaboration with TEED and A-Trak. Channeling radiant euphoria through rising pads and sweeping melodic phrasing, Kaspar leans into the emotional intensity of the original while transforming it into a full-blown moment of sunrise transcendence.

Closing out the release, Spanish duo Mëstiza return to reinterpret their collaboration with the Crosstown head honcho, ‘La Hija De Juan Simón’. Expanding on the track’s flamenco-inspired roots, they layer hand-played percussion, haunting vocal flourishes, and dense atmospheres into a hypnotic, slow-burning groove, bridging folklore and futurism in their unmistakable style.

As outlined by Damian upon the album’s release, ‘Magickal’ was envisioned as a cohesive body of work to be experienced in full—a reflection of personal transformation and creative clarity. This remix series opens up that universe even further, inviting trusted artists and close friends to reinterpret the record’s themes of connection, mysticism, and transcendence through their own sonic lenses.

With Part II set to follow at the end of September, this first instalment signals the beginning of an exciting new phase in the life of one of Damian’s most personal and expansive records to date.
