DJazz’s seventh EP, ‘Her Mom’s A Gypsy’, dives deep into the legacy of sound system culture. Inspired by his travels to India’s premier reggae festival, Goa Sunsplash, the three-track release is sub-bass-forward and produced to sound tight, powerful, and immersive on bass-heavy systems.
A. Lips Don’t Lie: A club-ready cut built on breaks fused with a four-to-the-floor pulse. The track carries a lively, bouncy groove, with dubby breaks spread widely across the sonic spectrum. It features is a distinctive bassline that alternates between bars, keeping the rhythm dynamic, catchy, and evolving.
B. Black Cat Bizness: Designed to shine in opening sets, this slow-paced breakbeat tune blends crisp drum breaks with a heavy, rolling bass rhythm. Atmospheric, detuned pads float through the mix, creating a warm, mellow sense of depth and fullness.
C. Shaila’s Myth: Opening with the drone of an Indian Classical Tanpura, the track unfolds in two distinct phases. The first half leans into a reggae-esque groove, transforming into a double-time, psychedelic flow. Textural layers of abstract guitar phrases and heavily processed sitar tones add an experimental edge.
