The legendary Chicago-based Trax Records – home to OG house & techno favorites Joey Beltram, Marshall Jefferson, Phuture and more – recently released the debut follow-on from Los Angeles producer Figment. We caught up with the fast-rising studio scientist for some of the scoop behind how the track came together.

“Part of the processing chain for all the main sounds was a stereo pair of the Evol Audio Fucifier distortion synthesizer.” Well-known for being part of deadmau5’ studio setup, there were only 99 Fucifiers ever made – Figment has 2 of those 99 in his studio. “It’s invaluable for drum processing, leads, even for added vocal grit in small amounts”, he says.

“Mastering was done by Mike Bell of Darkart Mastering in DTLA.” Bell is the Grammy award winning mastering engineer for Justice, Caspa, Claude Von Stroke and The Glitch Mob. Figment says, “Darkart is the best, there’s nothing else to it, my only choice when it comes to mastering”.

The vocal stabs were self-recorded and run through a Roland VT, a Boss Pedal, and the Fucifiers. Some of the female breathing samples were recorded in Figment’s old studio a couple of years ago by a pair of Germans wandering through California. Figment says, “I forgot their names but if they hear the track… remind me and I’ll give you credit”.

Release date: September 9th, 2020.
