Following the force-of-nature that was ‘Tormenta,’ Melorama Música steps into the future with its latest exhibition, Fran Garay’s sophisticated ‘Amplitude’ EP. Comprised of two hybrid gems, this new EP signals a monumental landmark for the Argentine imprint as it opens its creative refinery to new talents, ushering a new era for Melorama Música.
Treading with utmost aplomb on the opening ‘Amplitude,’ Garay conceives a perpetual motion machine where a thumping low-end pulse interlocks with gritty, effervescent ambiances, generating a hypnotic allure that pulls us deeper inside the piece as it works its unique alchemy. With ‘Amplitude’ now gaining momentum, its cogs turn and grind, offsetting a meandering lead that ebbs and flows across the aural spectrum, tantalizing listeners with its marauding aura. Funky yet deadly serious, this first cut flexes a gargantuan black hole at its core that warps all of its elements, reconfiguring matter in a gripping act of manipulation before allowing for the space/time continuum to resume, washing over us in rapture.
On the flip side, Garay returns with the ever-evolving ‘Modularity.’ Another cavernous behemoth, this second cut finds the Argentine artist diving head first into a fizzy frame where restless hi-hats cut through the pouding mix as a stabbed bassline thrashes everything in its path. With the foundations in place, ‘Modularity’ starts to unfurl, deploying a pulsating mid-section that grows in tension as the heat rises, while volcanic embers dance around us in a mystifying haze. With a complex blueprint, Garay’s second piece contorts and turns in elusive ways, challenging standards with its unpredictable demeanor for an unmissable joyride as we blaze into the unknown with nothing but certainty.
