LA-based electronic duo Haddadi Von Engst brings you Cash & Cars, their latest stunning single. Available on Kings Dead Records from 21st November, this is a track that’s about to invade your comfort zone. In a good way.
As soon as you press play on Cash & Cars, Haddadi Von Engst transports you to a seedy downtown alleyway. An ougaraga beat is thrashed out on trash cans and dumpsters whilst you hide from hell knows what, trying to catch your breath.
The visceral bass kicks burst from your chest like your heartbeat, pounding at 126 bpm. Something robotic is scanning your surroundings. Slowly, you edge down the alley, three figures come into view, joyously in concord as they play their steel drums. They begin singing:
Cash and Cars, like a shooting star, like a shooting star, Mama says your dreams ain’t far, your dreams ain’t far…
Whilst you feel the warmth from the oil drum fire and the safety in numbers with your new friends as you join in their mantra, you can still feel the damp, electronic blade running threat growling where the light of the fire stops, and the darkness begins. What Haddadi Von Engst manage to do on Cash & Cars is something very special, melding analogue warmth with minor chord synth. Haddadi Von Engst prove again, just like with previous singles Bad News and Hypnotised, to be masters of emotion.
Blending melodic house, indie dance, Afro rhythms, and techno, Haddadi Von Engst is something special. That’s why legends of music are queuing up to work with them. I Was Blind was remixed by Rodriguez Jr and reached #3 on Beatport’s Melodic House & Techno chart. Run (remixed by Einmusik), was #1 on that same chart and #2 on Beatport’s overall Top 100. In 2024, Crème Brûlée dropped on Solomun’s Diynamic, label and featured on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1show.
