Since bursting onto the scene three years ago Maroki has shaped out an emotionally-charged sound that comfortably wraps around any number of club styles. Even by his swooning, introspective standards, his new release on Ano Ano takes this idea further with guest vocalist Maeve rounding out some of his most poignant productions to date.
On ‘Dreamer’ Maroki teams up with his studio neighbour across the water, Hypnøs. As canal-side neighbors in Amsterdam, the pair have nurtured a kindred spirit of melodious rave music which celebrates all the best parts of the past 30 years of dance music. Those influences come through in abundance here, from throbbing 303s to the urgent techno propulsion of the drums, all cast in the moody melancholy of the pads that give the track its entrancing vibe.
