DJ champion and Slow Roast label manager Matsu creates music for the modern dancefloor with debut EP ‘R U With Me‘. Out now on Slow Roast Records.
Brooklyn-based artist and Slow Roast Records label manager Matsu formally presents his debut artist project with his ‘R U With Me’ EP. The three-track EP spins a 2021 twist on classic 909 and old school house, creating a new sound for the modern dance listener.
The 24-year old boasts an array of competitive DJ titles including Red Bull 3Style US Vice Champion, Goldie Awards World Finalist, and Campus DJ US Champion (when he was merely 21-years-old). Running alongside his heroes and mentors, the acclaimed disc jockey calls ‘R U With Me’ his first official release at Slow Roast Records where Matsu has found a sound home for his creative outlets.
Produced from his home studio in Brooklyn, ‘R U With Me’ is a symbol of Matsu’s diligent efforts throughout the pandemic to hone his craft and evolving sound as a producer. Mastu envisioned this EP as an uptempo, futuristic sounding house record designed for the club and dancefloor.
“I was heavily inspired by Disclosure’s regular twitch streams early on during quarantine. I would spend hours watching and studying their sessions, and would sit down to apply those new things I learned daily. Eventually, I stopped watching the streams as often and focused entirely on just writing and crafting my own sound.” — Matsu
The half Japanese, half Russian producer first ushered in the EP with single ‘R U With Me’, using vocal chops and modern engineering to instill that classic house with classic M1 piano synths and 909 drums. “Migu” holds the torch as the EP’s high energy festival tune, produced under a global dance lens with a Baile Funk vocal sample and massive drums that really sound the alarm on this fidget house leaning track. ‘Any Vibe’ finds shelter in more progressive future house vibes with strong chords, softer uplifting synths, and cheeky slick vocals that still carry the bite and verve of a dance record.
Matsu has already received cosigns from legendary DJs like Craze, A-Trak, and Jazzy Jeff, been supported by brands such as Redbull, Serato, DJcity/Beatsource, and performed across clubs in the US and Europe, including opening for superstars like Diplo and Post Malone.
An expert curator in every sense of the word, Matsu’s ‘R U With Me’ serves as the anchor point of the talented artist’s new sonic direction towards house.
