MITCH WELLINGS – SPACE TOURS: THE LEGACY OF PHOENIX

This historical document, brought to you by the Space Tours Foundation has been created to honor the legacy of the first-ever passengers on the Space Tours interplanetary travel service. Using real interview clips, and music made solely from machines available at the time, we tell the story of one passenger, Phoenix: born and raised in the human race.

Space Tours: The Legacy of Phoenix is the extraordinary new concept album from Mitch Wellings. Based on the fictional backstory that his label Space Tours is the world’s first intergalactic travel agent, the album positions itself as a company propaganda piece, telling the transformational journey of one passenger on the first-ever Space Tours flight.

From boring 9-5 IT guy with no purpose to being completely reawakened with an entirely new outlook on life due to his experiences in Space, the story of Phoenix is told using a choice selection of voice actors from around the world, supporting Welling’s singular musical vision.

The word ‘journey’ is somewhat overused when it comes to describing electronic music sets and albums, but it is entirely appropriate when used in the content of The Legacy Of Phoenix. Encompassing elements of house, electro, garage, disco, funk, breaks, and ambient, the album is a trip in every sense of the world, with Wellings creating an incredible sense of place and a narrative thrust that keeps you thoroughly engaged throughout.

Every track here has its own identity: from the celestial club bounce of cuts like Live From Earth and Try To Stay Calm to the beautiful ambient meandering of The Human Race (Reprise) and melodic depth of the closing track Answers (Thank You). But it is as a complete body of work that The Legacy Of Phoenix is at its strongest: an expansive vision delivered with both technical prowess and artistic flair.

“The albums that stand the test of time tend to have an underlying concept that resonates in some way. Ultimately, I wanted to create something that was not only world-building but could connect with people on a deeper level.” Mitch Wellings

Mitch Wellings turned heads when launching his vinyl label, Space Tours, back in 2019. His debut release sold out worldwide in less than 24 hours, prompting an instant repress. Space Tours now boasts four sought-after solo EP’s from Mitch, with remixes from Harry Wills, Nemo Vachez, Youandewan, and most recently, Jhobei.

Since its inception, Space Tours records have been heavily recognized by the who’s who of the underground digging scene, with support from Hamish & Toby, Voigtmann, and Truly Madly to name a few, as well as industry heavyweights such as Sasha, Enzo Siragusa, and Gerd Janson.

“In the increasingly saturated world of limited-run, vinyl-only labels, it can be hard to really stand out. But Mitch Wellings, the force behind Space Tours, has done alright for himself.” Resident Advisor

As a DJ, Mitch is known for his eclectic record collection, guaranteeing exciting selections and rare underground gems. He’s happiest when flowing between genres, steering crowds wherever he sees fit.

Following a successful launch event in Manchester, the Space Tours events series will continue to roll out in 2023, with dates in the UK, Barcelona, and more to be confirmed.

Release date:  June 2nd, 2023.
