Beaming under the vast night sky, Faoi Na Réaltaí presents their third release as we welcome Irish producer and live act Never More. The former label manager for Republik Music Recordings, who boasts a catalog that includes select imprints such as Selador and Dance Artifakts, has presented us with three unique outings that defy the imagination with his sublime capability for storytelling in ‘Kukarabanza’.
Introducing us to the EP, ‘Kukarabanza’ presents striking percussions that intensify with each passing beat before a primal bassline solidifies its low end, gripping listeners in a tight bind as it thrusts us on a life-affirming voyage. Deep inside, warm pads slither without haste into an arresting arpeggio before winding down into a most gorgeous breakdown where lush female vocals lay suspended for us to bask in, and gently push us back into the tribal grounds for one last act lead by a showstopping melodic sequence.
The follow-up, ‘Tinker’, unravels over quirky percussive patterns that latch on to a menacing arp, quickly meandering into a resonating bassline before being introduced to the most interesting folk tale about Irish Cider. An unexpected turn that elevates the piece to a class of its own, fitting perfectly with the sonic storms that surround it at every corner.
‘Spraoi’, Never More’s third and final act, is perhaps the most unique creation delivered by the artist in ‘Kukarabanza’, as warm silhouettes twist and contort deep in djembes and marimbas, entranced by bewitched lead organ, dancing through hazy memories that intensify and dissipate in seconds, leaving fragments lingering as they return to where they came from.
Eccentric and unrepeatable, yet accessible and intimate, Never More’s ‘Kukarabanza’ poises itself as one of the artist’s true highlights while showcasing Faoi Na Réaltaí’s power to bring the wonders of the sonic world closer to home
