Visionary DJ, producer, and cultural alchemist Nutritious shines a light on his latest body of work with ‘Solarmaxxing’, a six-track mini album arriving on July 31st via his own Liquid Culture Records. Conceived as a celebration of warmth, movement, and open-air dancefloors, the release captures what the artist describes as “Nu-house” for proper sound systems, all-night rooms, and sun-soaked moments.
Following previous releases such as ‘Ether’ and ‘Freefall’, which earned radio support alongside artists including Billie Eilish, Daft Punk, Disclosure, and Kaskade, Nutritious has continued to build an eclectic career that stretches far beyond the club. His album ‘Blurs’, featuring artwork by legendary designer John Van Hamersveld, became the first of several releases to reach Beatport’s top sales charts, while his work has also included film scores for Danny Aiello and sync placements alongside Method Man and Moby.
Speaking about the project, Nutritious explains:
“‘Solarmaxxing’ turns everything toward the sun and holds it there—heat, rhythm, and motion with the intensity of a living star. A record that squeezes the electricity of a juicy day and keeps it flowing past dark—golden dawns, neon sunsets, salt on skin—sugar for the soul.”
A true DJ’s DJ, Nutritious developed his craft through cassette tapes and vinyl, blending cosmic disco, deep house, nu-disco, indie dance, and techno into energetic, improvisational sets. Treating three to four turntables as live instruments, he creates real-time remixes while weaving together rare edits and deep cuts. His performances have taken him to venues and events including Pikes Ibiza, Art Basel, ZeyZey Miami, Cielo NYC, Mighty SF, Pacha NYC, The Whitney Museum with support from The Andy Warhol Foundation, Rodarte during New York Fashion Week, and international Mushroom Jazz events alongside Mark Farina.
Across its six tracks, ‘Solarmaxxing’ explores different shades of summer. ‘You Belong’ opens with breezy strings, melodic basslines, and effortless vocals, while the title track pairs playful breakbeat percussion with bright struck-string melodies. ‘Star Child’ combines machine drums, an acid bassline, and sultry vocals for a late-night city atmosphere, before ‘Nude’ dives deeper underground with echoing percussion, stealthy bass, and harmonium-like chords evoking sunrise through warehouse windows. ‘Loro’ transports listeners to a waterfront sound system through marimba melodies and rolling grooves, while ‘Endless Summer’ closes the record with uplifting piano, jazz-inflected synths, polyrhythms, and swung house rhythms in celebration of the communal spirit of the season.
Nutritious signed his first record deal at just 16 years old, was promoting events at the Palladium by 17, and later became the first resident DJ as Save The Robots entered a new chapter during New York City’s cabaret crackdown, playing all-night vinyl sets for the East Village community.
Outside of music, he is also a contributing author to the New York Times bestselling book ‘Living Well’ and a founding team member of DoubleBlind Magazine. His philanthropic work includes helping raise more than $150,000 for the National Down Syndrome Society, while also supporting organizations such as Bailey House, the MS Foundation, Boys & Girls Club Malibu, and the Last Prisoner Project.
