Presenting their second release of the year, MANTRA welcomes label boss RONA back for a new single entitled ‘Reborn’. 2022 began in fine style for the Israeli producer and vocalist, with the release of ‘Be / Choice’ landing in early January. The two-track showcase found the Haifa resident at her creative best, with the double a-side offering delivering moments of hope and reflection, while earning the support of industry trendsetters such as Adriatique and Solomun.
Now continuing on an upwards trajectory as we enter the year’s second quarter, RONA returns to her comfortable home of MANTRA with the transcendent sounds of ‘Reborn’.
RONA’s capacity for storytelling – both comforting and challenging – resonates across ‘Reborn’. Written with the mythological phoenix as a muse, it’s a journey that parallels RONA’s life in many ways. Believed to be immortal and associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor, working through moments of pain and hardship, yet surviving and building towards a better version of itself. Such is the message which resonates across the Israeli’s poignant vocals “Falling to pieces, Then you reborn, From the ashes, You reborn, Like the phoenix.” It’s this impassioned phrasing which carries the journey, all set over a bed of warm voluptuous bass, balmy atmospheres and a gentle, trance-inducing flow.
Senses heighten across the main break, again paralleling the resurgent phoenix and RONA herself, with spirited synth phrasing and a shimmering atmospheric wave perfectly foreshadowing a smooth yet triumphant finale. For the less vocally inclined there is also a ‘Dubbed Mix’ included, which carries all of the emotive qualities of the original with a scaled back take on the vocals. With ‘Reborn’ RONA has added another important release to her resume, one of faith and optimism, which continues the talented artists rise as 2022 enters it’s second quarter. Highly recommended.
