Norwegian duo Jouska deliver a fresh new remix of Solå’s 2019 cult-hit ‘Dizzy’, originally released via the French indie label Kitsuné. The original boasts a myriad of shimmering synths, smoothly frantic and extraordinarily subtle breaks alongside drowsy, hypnotic vocals. Jouska’s remix delivers a delicate drum workout, layering in emotional synths to give ‘Dizzy’ that ever-so-slightly sombre edge – in true Jouska style.
The Oslo-based Jouska is a production duo made up of Marit Othilie Thorvik and Hans Olav Settem; after meeting whilst studying music together, the pair were eager to experiment with electronic music for the first time. Blending influences from Gorillaz, The Internet, and Sassy 009, Jouska’s genre-bending sound keeps things strictly nostalgic. Combine this with the lofi and electronica elements found in Solå’s original version of ‘Dizzy’, and it’s a one-way street to a killer remix.
Since Jouska released their debut album, ‘Everything Is Good’, last year, the duo has gone from strength to strength. The album gained international attention, amongst critical appreciation and support from The Quietus and The Line of Best Fit. Japanese record label P Vine Records expressed further interest in the album, which is now being released on both CD and vinyl in Japan. The duo is currently working on their second album, which is set to release later in 2021.
Release date: May 28th, 2021.
