British DJ and producer STREETON continues the rollout for his forthcoming debut album Iridescence with the release of “Where We Started”, an irrepressible, club-focused cut featuring London-born saxophonist, composer, bandleader and Tomorrow’s Warriors alumnus David Kayode.
Originally hailing from the sleepy villages of Hertfordshire before relocating to the vibrant creative landscape of London, STREETON has steadily built a reputation for his uplifting yet sonorous blend of jazz-influenced house and broken beat. Rooted in Afro-Latin rhythms and percussion-led grooves, his music balances soulful musicality with the kind of club intensity that has made him a growing presence within the UK bruk and future-jazz scenes.
With releases on respected labels including Dance Regular, Darker Than Wax, To The Rock, and Boogie Café, alongside appearances at We Out Here Festival and broadcasts for Rinse FM and Voices Radio, STREETON has developed a sound that moves fluidly between intricate songwriting and dancefloor functionality.
That songwriting approach ultimately led to the creation of Iridescence, a long-form project shaped by collaboration, storytelling, and the communities surrounding London’s contemporary music culture. As STREETON explains:
“I’ve always been interested in the idea of storytelling, whether that’s in productions or DJ sets, and after releasing a string of EPs and singles, I was really keen to create a longer-format project where I could really have the space to explore a theme or a concept.”
“Where We Started” perfectly captures that ambition. As the tape machine clicks into action, David Kayode’s undulating saxophone lines are met with relentless percussion, hypnotic spoken word passages, sunny synth textures, and a driving bassline that pushes the track forward with unstoppable momentum.
Kayode’s contribution quickly became central to the identity of the track. STREETON says:
“I was already a big fan of David and a friend of mine, the broken beat producer Cengiz, put me in touch after he recorded on his track MOTF. I sent him the demo for ‘Where We Started’ and it’s safe to say he absolutely nailed it — particularly the Afrobeats line that instantly made the hook of the track.”
The repeated vocal refrain urging listeners to “return to where we started” gradually transforms the track from a peak-time club moment into something more reflective — a meditation on cycles, identity, and returning to one’s roots. As warped synths and slowed tape textures begin to disintegrate towards the track’s conclusion, the energy folds back into itself, leaving behind a sense of movement completed and revisited.
Those themes mirror the wider concept behind Iridescence. Growing up surrounded by jazz, funk, soul, jungle, and house music before discovering London’s deeply interconnected creative communities, STREETON sees the album as both a personal and musical journey.
“Iridescence is a project born out of the vibrancy and collaboration of London’s music scene… I think the album represents the journey of getting to that point, the vibrancy and colour of pursuing your art and the growing sense of identity that comes with finding your place and people within that.”
With “Where We Started”, STREETON further establishes himself as one of the most exciting new voices emerging from the UK’s soulful electronic underground, connecting broken beat heritage, contemporary jazz, and forward-thinking club music with warmth, depth, and unmistakable rhythmic energy.
Release date: June 23rd, 2026.
