Last Cat On Earth mastermind Thaddeus X returns to the imprint to present his latest gem, ‘Apnea/Seabed’. Showcasing all of his technical prowess on display, the Dominican DJ/producer’s latest delivery sees him diving off the deep end for a subaquatic voyage comprised of two stellar cuts that further solidify his status as a rising powerhouse.
Having recently deployed a coveted remix package of personal edits, Thaddeus X now rides the tides with the first track on this new EP, ‘Apnea’. Far from a temporary cessation of breathing, the title would suggest, this electric outing builds as a neon-lit chord sequence glows over a throbbing bassline. With a solid foundation in place, Thaddeus X invites wailing synths and tense strings to the conversation, allowing them to gracefully intertwine as heady vocal apparitions come in and out of frame while effervescent effects complete the aural panorama for an all-out immersive experience. Meanwhile, swaying synthetic embers gently fall around us as delightful vocal flourishes adorn the piece before Thaddeus X reveals a mesmerizing first break, uncovering a showstopping coral barrier that emanates the most arresting palette imaginable. As the low-end pulse resumes, we are thrust through warm currents where cascading arpeggios freefall over and over again, creating a dazzling ouroboros that offsets a menagerie of bubbles and pad swells that elevate us toward the surface as we bask in the track’s natural wonders for one last time.
