Smoked Glass is the debut EP from WeTurnToRed, a Syrian-born, Tamil/Canadian that grew up in the outskirts of Toronto. As a suburban arts high school kid she studied and trained in opera and jazz. After tagging along with her older brother to a rave in the mid-90’s Toronto scene, a love for electronic music was ignited.
She has been marinating in the studio for years, delving into the sounds of modular and analog synths where growling basslines and haunting melodies are a subject of her affection.
The first two tracks are built from the foundation of a past live performance, evolving into Bounce n Swirl, which encapsulates the feeling of dancing on hot concrete while ignoring the cries of sore and tired legs. Smoked Glass is intense. Inspired by seedy sexy late nights with the girl gang, looking for trouble. Make Me Weak, is a personal one, dug up from the past and reinvented with vocals that are meant to feel distant and dreamy.
With previous releases on Toronto labels ORO Records, Cosmic Resonance, and most recent release included on Planet E- Detroit Love Vol 5, she is excited to share her first official solo project. Stay tuned for more to come!
