Yazan Sarayrah reclaims Bedouin heritage while expanding the language of melodic electronic music on IRTH-TRONIC

Jordanian producer, composer and live performer Yazan Sarayrah presents IRTH-TRONIC, a bold new album that reimagines melodic electronic music through Arabic maqam, microtonal harmony and contemporary electronic production.

Rooted in Bedouin heritage while looking firmly forwards, the record explores identity, memory and belonging through a sound that feels equally at home on festival stages and in immersive listening spaces.

Drawing on Arabic maqam systems, Nabatean poetry and the landscapes of the broader Levant and the Arabian Peninsula, IRTH-TRONIC moves beyond the idea of incorporating traditional influences into electronic music. Instead, Yazan places these musical traditions at the centre of his compositional approach, creating a distinctive form of microtonal melodic techno that expands the vocabulary of contemporary electronic music while remaining internationally accessible.

The album reflects Yazan’s ongoing exploration of cultural identity, asking how heritage can continue to evolve rather than exist as something preserved in the past. Inspired by historic places, oral traditions and the rhythms of desert life, IRTH-TRONIC presents Jordanian and Bedouin culture through an authentic contemporary perspective, challenging familiar narratives and offering a new vision of electronic music shaped by the region’s own artistic language.

Growing up within a Bedouin community, Yazan developed a deep connection to the landscapes and traditions that continue to inform his work today. Discovering electronic music production opened a new creative pathway, allowing him to translate those experiences into an entirely contemporary musical form. Following his early releases, including the album Sharq Ettabbana (East of the Milky Way), which established his hypnotic live-looping approach and psychedelic electro-rock foundations, IRTH-TRONIC marks the next stage in his artistic evolution.

“My live performances are where IRTH-TRONIC comes to life. I treat each set as a ritual, where voice and live instrumentation meet MIDI control, analogue synthesis and electronic production to unfold the story of the album. The music is never exactly repeated; it emerges, transforms, and eventually returns to silence.”

That philosophy extends beyond the studio. Yazan’s live performances combine voice, electric guitar, analogue synthesis, MIDI controllers and real-time performance techniques to create immersive audiovisual experiences in which no two performances unfold in exactly the same way. Rather than reproducing finished tracks, each set develops organically around a structured framework, allowing the music to respond to its environment while retaining the emotional core of the album.

This approach has seen him perform at leading festivals and events across Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, including Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts, Amman Jazz Festival, Dune Dance Festival, Chill O’pposite Festival, Wall of Sound and Alt Orient’s live electronic showcase, while also sharing stages with internationally recognised artists including Sama’ Abdulhadi.

With IRTH-TRONIC, Yazan Sarayrah offers a compelling new perspective on melodic electronic music. By treating Arabic musical systems not as reference points but as fundamental building blocks, the album presents a distinctive artistic voice that speaks to both its cultural roots and the global electronic music community, demonstrating how heritage can continue to evolve through contemporary creative practice.
