The Soma Skool educational event, organized by the Soma Records label, will be held for the first time online during the weekend of Saturday, February 27th and 28th, 2021. The annual meeting is aimed at anyone interested in a career in the electronic music industry.
This event, which has established itself as Scotland’s premier electronic music conference, will feature masterclasses and panels from some of the industry’s most respected international artists and professionals. Each day there will be 1 panel and 2 masterclasses, both broadcast live, meaning that attendees can learn in real-time and ask questions of their favorite artists and industry professionals directly, all from the comfort of their home.

In these current times, the industry has stalled but this event has It has been curated to show that it is still very much alive and full of creators and professionals ready to nurture it. We hope this event will help reinvigorate the current and future careers of our industry and its audience, at a time when it is most needed’.

Saturday, February 27th
From 13:30 to 14:30 GMT, the panel ‘COVID and the future of the electronic music industry’ will take place and will be presented by music journalist Marcus Barnes. This panel will discuss the effects of the pandemic on different sectors of the industry and what the future holds. Panelists include Glasgow DJ duo and techno Slam icons, fabric promotions manager Judy Griffith, rising DJ of the European techno scene Cera Khin and other artists will be announced.
From 14:45 to 16 pm there will be an electronic music production masterclass led by Rebekah. ‘Creating Out of the Box’ will be based on how you approach your creative side of producing your track. The meeting will be hosted by Subsine Academy Ableton Certified Instructor Simon Stokes.
From 16:15 to 17:15 the world’s electronic music equipment and software giants, Pioneer DJ, will offer a masterclass on their latest DJ equipment. In this session, Sam Shepherd from Pioneer DJ will discuss the new and innovative features of the CDJ-3000 and DJM-V10 mixer. This will be followed by an exclusive interview with DJ + Producer Nightwave about their experiences with these latest releases, with interviewer Steven Galloni from SKapade Studios.
Sunday, February 28th
From 13:30 to 14:30 GMT, there will be a panel focusing on ‘Clubs, Creatives, Communities and Mental Health’, organized by Clubber2Clubber, a non-profit organization that promotes wellness in the club community. This panel will address a discussion about mental health within clubs and creative communities. Panelists include Scottish rapper, author, social commentator, and filmmaker Loki (Darren McGarvey); Juliette Duffy, founder of the psychological art magazine Pysche; Raihan from QTIBPOC, and more.
From 2:45 to 4:00 PM, Soma Records’ Petrichor will deliver his own Ableton Masterclass based on production tips and tricks from the making of his latest Soma album, ‘Narisshu’. The masterclass will also include a free download of Subsine Studio’s Ableton Live production course for attendees.
To wrap up the event, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m., UK DJ and producer Manni Dee will deliver a masterclass based on the breakdown of one of his own fast-paced techno tracks. The class will be presented by Subsine Academy Ableton Certified Instructor Simon Stokes.
