US house veterans Soul Clap join forces with South Florida’s Haven Star for the emotionally charged ‘Gone Stumblin”, released via Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels.
The track began with recording sessions at Brooklyn’s Marcy Hotel, featuring John Camp on keys. After sitting unused for a while, Soul Clap’s Charles Levine gave it new life by adding Haven Star’s powerful vocals.
The release features the original mix with heady keys and rich chords paired with a bouncing low end, while the ‘dub’ mix strips things back for after-hours introspection. ‘Unifying Force’ taps into Soul Clap’s psychedelic ethos, and a ‘bonus version’ of the title track offers yet another club-ready rework.
“The origins of ‘Gone Stumblin” lead back to sessions at the original Marcy Hotel where Wolf + Lamb made history… Charlie connected with South Florida rising talent Haven Star whose songwriting and vocal delivery took it into the cosmos!” explained Soul Clap. “The lyrics speak of a girls night out with some hazy outcomes, but the title actually references a long-lost comedy short and inside crew classic about a man hilariously struggling to stay on his feet. Somehow it all makes perfect sense.”
