SoundCloud has acquired Nina Protocol, the blockchain-based music marketplace that ended operations on July 15th, 2026. The transaction was announced on Wednesday, July 22nd. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Artists who previously used Nina will be able to upload their music to SoundCloud and opt into its creator ecosystem. The acquisition also includes Nina Protocol’s editorial archive and genre map feature.
“We prioritise a company’s ethos above all else, and we would not be engaging in this partnership to transition Nina’s context and community to SoundCloud if we did not feel entirely comfortable with their values and plans,” the Nina Protocol team said.
The platform announced its closure in May after operating as a decentralised marketplace for artists, releases, and independent editorial content. SoundCloud is still determining how Nina’s archive and third-party contributions will be preserved or republished.
