Introducing Fan-Powered Fridays.
Streaming giant SoundCloud has announced its plans to double royalties on track streams, starting this Friday, April, 29th, 2022.
The new initiative, dubbed Fan-Powered Fridays, ‘invites fans to stream music from their favorite independent artists all day long’, as the brand pledges to match 100% of their revenue earned that day.
Back in April 2021, SoundCloud launched its ‘Fan-Powered Royalties’, which meant that individual subscribers would have their monthly payments distributed. Royalties are based on whether the fan has a paying subscription to SoundCloud Go+, and how many advertisements the fan has consumed. Since then, statistics show that of 135,000 independent artists surveyed, 60% earn more royalties compared to using the traditional ‘pro rata’ model.
