Official announcements are expected soon.
According to Billboard, Soundcloud will soon change its current model, enabling fans to pay artists directly. The news has not been confirmed as of yet, but it is expected to run similarly to other platforms like Patreon and Only Fans.
The same system has already worked for Chinese streaming platforms like Tencent Music’s QQ Music. Direct payment systems have increased in demand as artists look to make up for lost revenue from canceled shows due to the pandemic.
It’s not yet clear if SoundCloud will pivot to payments based on individual fan streaming, rather than a pro-rata payment system that is currently in place.
