Splice has announced the acquisition of Spitfire Audio, marking a major expansion into the virtual instrument and plugin market. Although terms were not officially disclosed, Financial Times reports the deal is valued at around US$50 million.
Founded in 2007, Spitfire Audio is renowned for its sampled virtual instruments, offering recordings from iconic sources such as Abbey Road Studios and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
Both companies will continue to operate independently, with Kakul Srivastava remaining CEO of Splice and Olivier Robert-Murphy leading Spitfire Audio. Co-founder Paul Thomson will stay on to direct Spitfire’s creative vision.
“We’re both sound-first, creator-led companies who believe great software and technology can supercharge the creative experience,” said Srivastava. “Our shared vision is to develop tools that expand—not replace—human creativity.”
Splice, best known for its vast royalty-free sample library and AI-powered search tools, now moves deeper into music production tools as the plugin market grows—estimated to be worth US$640 million globally.
