Spotify plans to expand its platform by adding video learning materials. This will include a range of educational resources such as music production tutorials, musical instrument lessons, and music performance courses.
To provide high-quality content, Spotify is partnering with educational platforms such as the BBC’s Maestro and UK-based video learning portal PlayVirtuoso. These collaborations will bring industry experts like MJ Cole, Carl Cox, and Sherelle to the streaming platform.
These educational courses will be an addition to the Spotify app and won’t be included in the regular subscription. Users can preview the content with three free videos, but unlimited access requires a one-time fee. The initial offerings include a two-step garage beat tutorial by MJ Cole (US$ 31.45), Sarah Story’s guide on creating a radio demo (US$ 37.75), and Joris Voorn’s walkthrough on producing melodic techno (US$ 44.05). Not all courses will be available immediately.
Spotify’s data indicates that about half of its premium subscribers regularly listen to educational and self-help podcasts. Babar Zafar, VP of Product Development, notes the growing trend of users learning from podcasts and audiobooks and expects a high demand for quality video course content.
More information about the new educational video content on Spotify is available on their official website here.
