Spotify is set to take on YouTube with video podcasts

Premiering their new feature, ‘vodcasts’.

Earlier in July, the streaming giant Spotify launched its new subscription tier ‘Premium Duo’, and now the platform is set to allow all users to take advantage of its new video podcasts. By the name of ‘vodcasts’, this feature will enable streamers to not only hear but also view participating podcasters.

At the moment, podcasts like ‘Book of Basketball 2.0’, ‘The Morning Toast’, and ‘Fantasy Footballers’ are among the few select series that are set to implement this new modality. According to Spotify, the functionality can be expected to be more broadly accessible in the months to come. To view said ‘vodcasts’, users need only to press ‘play’ on a video-approved podcast.

In the past years, podcasters had to upload their audio shows to platforms like Google and Apple, while uploading it’s video components to YouTube. With this new feature, Spotify is now in a position to go head-to-head with YouTube.
